arrives at Netflix this August 31 one piecethe absurd comedy series that adapts the manga of the same name in live action format, which since its launch in 1997 has become the best-selling in history in Japan.
Created by Eiichiro Oda and centered on a buccaneer who, accompanied by his team of sailors, launches into a sequence of intrepid explorations in search of a mythical treasure that would make him the King of the Pirates, the story comes to the small screen with great expectations on the part of of a whole entourage of fans of the original publication, which has already published 106 volumes.
What is One Piece about?
Produced by Shueisha -the publisher behind the manga- and Tomorrow studios, the strip has matt owens and Steven Maeda as writers and showrunners, and will follow Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy), a young adventurer who has longed for a free life for as long as he can remember, and who decides to leave his small town to embark on a dangerous mission on the high seas to find the famous “One Piece” that would take him to the top of his profession.
For that, he must secure a good ship and gather his ideal crew, which will end up being made up of a group of skilled friends: Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu Arata), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson) and Sanji (taz skylar).
“I emphasize that in this series we never neglect quality, the effort has been enormous. The cast, the wardrobe team and everyone who has worked on the design of this universe have gone out of their way to show things in a way that could only be achieved in live action format,” the manga author said in statements to the press.
In that sense, Oda added that “the script and the whole process of combining the ideas of so many people has been a celebration in itself”, and that “the production and the team are truly professionals, and also, they are superfans of ‘ One Piece'”.
Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste lootrs, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward and Chioma Umealathe more, complete the cast of the series.
