Almost at the “end of the world” and the Atlantic as far as the eye can see. Each of his novels was at least partly written here. The cottage of the successful author is now for sale. It’s not exactly cheap.
A cottage formerly owned by British writer John le Carré (1931-2020) is for sale in South West England. The Cornwall home is being offered for £3million, The Times newspaper reported on Friday. Le Carré – real name David John Moore Cornwell – wrote the thrillers “The Spy Who Came In From The Cold” and “The Gardener Ever”.
Every one of his novels since 1970 has been created at least in part in the house, his son Nick Cornwell told the newspaper. Located on the coast of the far south west of England, the property offers multiple bedrooms, a pool and sea views.
Le Carré’s son shared fond memories of the former family home in The Times, but also reported complex feelings. “I was there at Easter and it was absolutely stunning, but I wasn’t as happy as I had hoped because I was aware of the loss. On the one hand, the house is the most wonderful place on earth, and on the other, it’s steeped in sorrow.”
