Enrique Breccia will be the protagonist of a meeting at the National Library

A talk with the painter and cartoonist Enrique Breccia will take place next Friday, September 8, within the framework of the exhibition “National Bestiary. Creatures of the Argentine Imaginary” that proposes to reflect on national traditions and is held at the National Library.

The meeting, in which Juan Sasturain and José María Gutiérrez will participate, will deal with aspects of the pictorial work of the cartoonist and illustrator and his connection with autochthonous myths, and his career as a cartoonist and plastic artist, his collaborations with graphic media in Europe and the United States and their affective bond with rural areas.

At the end of the talk, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Jorge Luis Borges Auditorium, Breccia will draw a magical being chosen by vote among the public, it was reported in a statement.

Enrique Breccia was born in Buenos Aires in 1945. With his father, the famous cartoonist Alberto Breccia, he illustrated the comic La vida del Che (1968), with a script by Héctor G. Oesterheld and also collaborated in the creation of nightmare climates for the second version of The Eternaut (1969).

His most notable works are Alvar Mayor, El Sueñero, Avrack, El Señor de los Halcones, Los sentinelas, as well as his productions for DC Comics’ Marvel and Vertigo imprints, among which Swamp Thing and the graphic novel Lovecraft stand out. In 2011, he received the Gran Guinigi award for Master of Comics.

“National Bestiary. Creatures of the Argentine Imaginary” proposes to reflect on national traditions, their support and the survival of myths today, and can be visited until September 24 in the Juan L. Ortiz room of the National Library, located in Omen 2502.
