“Dream Weaver” singer Gary Wright has died at the age of 80

Gary Wright succumbed to complications from his illness after a long health struggle. He died at the age of 80.

“Dream Weaver” singer Gary Wright has died. His son Justin Wright confirmed this to the American news portal “TMZ”. He is said to have passed away at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California on the South Bay last Monday morning at the age of 80.

According to TMZ, the singer had been suffering from Parkinson’s for about five or six years. Shortly thereafter, the singer was also said to have been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. Gary’s Parkinson’s disease is said to have progressed very rapidly in recent years.

Gary Wright ended up unable to speak

His son Justin says his father eventually lost the ability to move and speak. The news portal goes on to report about the last days in the singer’s life that nurses who worked at Gary Wright’s home told the family that his last chapter had now begun and that it was coming to an end. His family is said to have been by his side in his final hours.

Singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop shared an emotional post on X, formerly Twitter, about Wright’s death. He writes: “The photos contain precious memories of the first and last time we shared the stage with our mutual musical pal, John Ford Coley. Gary’s vibrant personality and extraordinary talent made it all possible. (…) His Legacy will live on for many years to come.”

Considered one of the first mainstream artists to introduce the synthesizer to pop, Wright released a total of 12 albums. In the 1970s he brought the most well-known songs “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive” onto the market. He was also involved in a variety of collaborations, including with the Beatle George Harrison.
