Media: Photographer and influencer Paul Ripke is now also a radio intern

Paul Ripke is best known as a photographer and influencer. Almost a million people follow him on Instagram. Now he wants to try his luck on the radio – as a morning show intern.

The photographer and influencer Paul Ripke (42) now wants to try his hand at radio moderation. He applied as an intern on the bigFM morning show in Mannheim and got the job live on the show after an interview on Monday. The internship is supposed to start this Tuesday.

“I have no idea if I can do it properly,” says the Heidelberg native of the German Press Agency. He doesn’t have the right qualifications, but he brings the ability to speak and a passion for music with him. He can learn the rest. “I’ve talked into all my jobs for the last 15 years, so I can talk.”

From sports photographer to morning show

Ripke, who is one of the best-known German influencers with around a million followers on Instagram, is best known for his photos of the German national team winning the World Cup in Rio. He was allowed to accompany the team up close in 2014. For Formula 1 he photographed Lewis Hamilton, among others. He accompanied Die Toten Hosen and Marteria on tours. He has lived with his family in Newport Beach, California near Los Angeles since 2016.

According to Ripke, he discovered the internship at the morning show by accident on the Internet. The moderators Kristina Fixemer and Rolf Vogl are looking forward to their new intern, even if he will probably only rarely be in the Mannheim studio.

The time difference suits him

Ripke wants to work from home. “I find it very charming that my day comes to an end while it starts in Germany.” LA is ahead of the times, so he doesn’t have to get up early for the job. When the morning show starts, it’s already evening for him on the west coast.

He cannot say how his radio career will continue after the three-month internship. “But I’m at the point in my life where I long for something long-term.”
