Lena Meyer-Landrut on her accident: “It really wasn’t funny”

“I broke my ass”: Lena Meyer-Landrut describes in a podcast in drastic words how her riding accident happened.

Lena Meyer-Landrut (32) speaks for the first time in the SWR3 podcast “1 plus 1 – Friendship on time” about her riding accident, in which she suffered a double fracture of the sacrum. The episode can be heard from September 6th in the ARD Audiothek, on SWR3.de and wherever there are podcasts.

The horse would not stop galloping

In an interview with podcaster Giulia Becker (32), the singer first reports why she only takes part via video and not live: “I’m fine, but I broke my ass. (…) I fell off the horse. ” Then she tells how the fateful incident came about: “After 15 years it was my second riding lesson – or almost 20 years – and I used to ride. And then I thought, ‘That’s cool, you know. I’m driving sometimes to a riding stable and then I’m alone – and I’ll just do something for myself.” The first riding lesson went very well.

In the second hour, however, galloping was on the agenda. “And then we galloped, and then the horse definitely had a lot of fun and didn’t want to stop galloping. But I wanted to stop.” The centrifugal force then pushed them outwards. “It pushed me outward and then I fell down. (…) Then I kind of fell on my lower back and broke two vertebrae.” She is now dealing with the injury. “It definitely wasn’t funny. The first few days were really shitty and emotionally tough because you get completely different ideas.”

After the accident “grounded”

The simplest things suddenly became a challenge, as the singer describes: “You can’t move at all. Above all, you can’t get up, sit down, bend down, pick up things and it’s all so difficult.” But she was lucky in misfortune. Although she still suffers from pain, there will be no long-term impairments. “But when you lie there and think for a moment, ‘Okay, it wouldn’t have been a long time and then my legs would have been useless, so to speak.’ It’s really hard. That’s what I mean by appreciating.” She was “definitely more grounded now after the accident”. And despite the tough weeks, she can even imagine getting back on the saddle again.

She had to cancel her appearance on “RTL Stars for Free”.

The singer has occasionally shared glimpses of her health on her Instagram page. She recently wrote about a picture: “A few weeks ago, when the studio was still going well.” She had previously reported in a story: “Healing a fracture takes strength. I put on make-up today and recorded a podcast and I’m completely in the bucket.”

On August 8, the singer posted an X-ray and explained that she fell off her horse and suffered a double cruciate ligament fracture. “I’m trying to recover as best I can now, do it calmly and slowly.” She had to cancel her appearance on August 26 at “RTL Stars for Free” in Berlin. She still needs “protection and healing before it starts again,” she let her followers know. “Stage with you is so bucking and I’m happy when it’s that time again soon.”

Celebrities get to know each other in the podcast

Well, at least fans can hear her on the podcast. The idea of ”1 plus 1 – temporary friendship”: Two prominent personalities who don’t know each other or hardly know each other talk to each other every Wednesday for a month. After four episodes, they have to decide if they want to stay friends.
