They break their silence: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner declare in a statement that the divorce is a “joint decision”.
It’s official: Joe Jonas (34) and Sophie Turner (27) are getting divorced. Released after days of rumours, which he co-wrote with his estranged wife. It read: “After four wonderful years, we have decided together and in friendship to end our marriage.”
There is “a lot of speculation as to why,” Jonas and Turner continued, “but this is truly a joint decision and we hope everyone can respect our desire for privacy, both for us and for our children.”
Jonas is said to have officially filed the divorce papers as early as Tuesday, reported People magazine, which has the relevant court documents. It says accordingly: “The marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”
According to the divorce application, the singer and the actress known from “Game of Thrones” have signed a marriage contract. The documents have been filed with a court in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
He wants joint custody
As the US celebrity portal “TMZ” reports, Joe Jonas has applied for joint custody of the two daughters (three and one years old). A judge should therefore draw up a plan as to how he and Sophie will share the educational tasks in the future.
Jonas, according to “TMZ”, has taken care of the two daughters “almost all the time” for the past three months, although he is currently on a world tour with his brothers. He has also been spotted several times without a wedding ring.
According to People magazine, the filing of the divorce papers was “no surprise” to those close to the couple. An unspecified inside source claims Jonas and Turner “spent the whole summer apart” and have been “living separate lives for months.”
