A Swedish thriller film leads the top most viewed on Netflix

The film is directed and co-written by Chernobyl actor Fares Fares and is the most viewed on the platform.

A day and a half (En dag och en halv, original title), is a Swedish suspense production inspired by real events. The film was released on Friday, September 1 and has a duration of more than an hour and a half and is ranked first among the 10 most popular films in Netflix.

What A Day and a Half is about

Directed and co-written by the actor Chernobyl, Fares Faresthe film follows Artan (Alexej Manvalov), an armed and visibly desperate man who breaks into a healthcare facility to kidnap his wife Louise (Alma Poysti) and force her to reveal the whereabouts of her daughter Cassandra. Along the way, she also takes security officer Lukas hostage, forcing them to experience a journey full of family drama, misunderstandings and revelations that will test their limits.

With the police on their trail, the conflict not only becomes physical but also emotional and cultural. The pressure increases when a tinge of xenophobia and prejudice towards ethnic Albanians is intentionally revealed. The film also addresses themes of domestic abuse and the complexity of broken relationships.

A day and a half is based on real events

Although there is not much information about the actual incident, Fares revealed that the inspiration came from an article he read in 2008. Of course, the narrative is completely fictional, thus allowing for a deeper exploration of interpersonal ties. “The note only had a couple of lines, very short, but without a doubt, I saw a love story there,” he told Vogue.
