They inaugurated the Entre Ríos Cinematheque on the 5th. Provincial Film Festival

The Instituto Autarquico Audiovisual de Entre Ríos (IAAER) yesterday inaugurated its public Cinematheque within the framework of the 5th. Film Festival of the province, with the aim of protecting the local and regional film and sound heritage and collaborating in the development of the activity.

The file, which was provided for in the regulations of the Audiovisual Law that Governor Gustavo Bordet announced last Wednesday during the opening of the audiovisual contest, had contributions from the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande and Sidecreer, the Entre Ríos state credit system .

The creation of the Cinematheque had its official inauguration yesterday, in an event that was attended by the Secretary of Culture of Entre Ríos, Francisca D’Agostino; the artistic director of the Film Festival (Ficer), Eduardo Crespo; and authorities of the Mixed Technical Commission of Salto Grande and Sidecreer.

“It is the first step we take to create the Provincial Cinematheque and Archive, it is something that is established in the Audiovisual Development Law and that we want to begin to consolidate,” D’Agostino commented at the event.

For his part, Crespo expressed that with this initiative he is “supporting a very beautiful and noble cause that has to do with a cinema that has a long history in the province”: “I am excited about this moment because it is a dream, to have a place to take care of the films that are made in these places and that are so important for us to think about, to build a community and a feeling for these parts,” he said.

Furthermore, the artistic director pointed out that “the Festival, as a platform, wants to leave this to the new generations of Entre Ríos, so that they can see cinema in good conditions, that is cared for and that is protected.”

The Cinematheque was designed mainly for filmmakers, audiovisual, sound and visual producers and screenwriters, as well as for film students and amateur filmmakers, researchers and teachers, with the hoarding and preservation of physical film material and all the elements that accompany it, such as the critics, the region’s cinema listings and its advertising.

In that sense, during a discussion and reflection table held after the inauguration, the director of the Pablo Ducrós Hicken Film Museum, Paula Félix Didier, commented that in the country “we are very behind in the care of our audiovisual heritage” and ” We have few institutions that are dedicated to this.”

“What one discovers when one leaves Buenos Aires is that the audiovisual production is enormous. Not only films that are released in cinemas, also feature-length fiction and documentary films, newsreels, institutional films, experimental, educational, animation, family films and archives of government. That a festival gives rise to this is very important because it is very good to promote productions, but we also have to accompany them throughout the process, including preservation,” he added.

The Entre Ríos Audiovisual Archive joins other similar experiences in different provinces of the country, such as La Rioja, Neuquén, Corrientes, Santa Fe and Chaco.
