John J. York: “General Hospital” star has cancer

John J. York needs to take a long break. As the “General Hospital” star announced, he is currently battling cancer.

“General Hospital” star John J. York (64) is currently dealing with serious health problems. , he is currently undergoing medical treatment for blood and bone marrow disorders. On Wednesday he posted a video there that was almost two minutes long to keep his fans and followers updated about his condition.

A week earlier, York announced that he would have to take a “short break” from filming the popular US series. Now he became more specific: “In December 2022, I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, MDS for short, and smoldering multiple myeloma – two blood and bone marrow diseases.”

MDS is a group of cancers in which the red blood cells often do not mature properly in the bone marrow and therefore cannot fulfill their oxygen-transporting function in the body. MDS can progress into secondary acute myeloid leukemia. Smoldering multiple myeloma is a precancerous condition that changes certain proteins in the blood.

Message from John J. York is not a farewell

“In the last few months I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies, lots of chemotherapy, another one coming up in a few weeks, and I’m about to have a blood stem cell transplant,” says York, explaining his health. His message wasn’t a farewell, just a “see you soon.” “I will have to take a break for at least four months, but I will be back. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your time, thank you for your prayers. We will speak soon.”

John J. York is one of the most famous faces in the Hospital series. His character of Mac Scorpio was introduced in 1991. So far he has worked on almost 650 episodes of the soap opera.
