Lando Calrissian Donald Glover will not return in a new series Star Wars, but in a movie. The Deadline portal has confirmed that the project will go from a series of Disney+ to the big screen.
The news was revealed today through the actor’s brother and co-producer of atlanta, Stephen Glover, who was working on the project with Donald Glover. In July it became known that the duo replaced Justin Simien as writers of Landau.
Director of Haunted Mansion and creator of Dear White People, Justin Simienpreviously joined to write Landau when it was first revealed to be in the works in 2020, but Simien is no longer involved in the project.
Glover played a young Lando in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, replacing Billy Dee Williamswho stepped into Lando’s shoes in “The Empire Strikes Back”. The creator of atlanta He has been outspoken about returning to the role, but at this time it is unclear if he is attached to the star.
“We are talking about that. That’s all I can say without Kathleen Kennedy coming after me,” Glover told GQ in April. “I would love to play Lando again… It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it.”
What was known about the Lando series for Disney+
According to Above the Line, which first reported the news, the Glovers’ involvement has been top secret for months, joining the project before the writers’ strike began. That’s even though Simien was recently asked, on multiple occasions, if he was still attached to Landau.
“I’m attached, I think, but I don’t really know. (Laughs). The last thing they told me was that they loved it but they needed to put a pin on it until they could figure out everyone’s availability,” he told THR this week. “I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot. I am not alone in that experience. But I can’t help but wonder, ‘Am I too black? Am I too weird? And people just don’t want to say that? Because it seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for unknown reasons.”
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story grossed only $392 million worldwide, a disappointment for a film Star Warsbut the number of series in the saga that have been successful in Disney+.
“Atlanta” by Donald and Stephen Glover ended in 2022, and the brothers currently have an overall deal with Amazon Studios, where Glover co-created the series “Swarm,” directed by Dominique Fishback.
