The plot of the film It is based on the novel “Rembrandt’s First Love in San Elmo”, written by Liu Zhijiang himself. The text tells the love story of Joaquín, an art student, and his girlfriend Rosario who, after the challenges imposed on them by the pandemic, embark on an adventure of research and discovery around a painting – until now unknown – by Rembrandt. But – the deeper they delve into their findings – Joaquín and Rosario realize that the painting connects with their feelings and their lives.

“I wrote the book based on what I feel,” Zhijiang explains. “In my experience in San Telmo, and in baroque art; but, above all, it is a book based on love, inspired by the love between Jacob and Rachel. Rembrandt pursues line and color, but his goal is poetry, that’s why I decided to write a book before anything else. But then I thought, why not take it to the cinema screens, to reach the whole world?
The film will be developed by audiovisual producer Marcos Barboza (“Historias Mínimas”, by Carlos Sorín, among others) and Zhijiang. It will be filmed in the emblematic San Telmo neighborhood, in Ushuaia and in Rembrandt’s place of origin: Holland. Production is already underway and aims to be released at the end of 2024.
