The Swedes are in a celebratory mood: On September 15, 2023, King Carl XVI. Gustaf celebrates his 50th anniversary on the throne with numerous events. To kick things off, a concert took place in the palace on Thursday evening, attended by not only the Royal Family, but also members of the Danish and Norwegian royal families. On Friday, the program includes a thanksgiving service and an anniversary dinner.
The main celebrations take place on Saturday. Then Carl Gustaf and his wife Silvia will show themselves to the people in a big parade through downtown Stockholm. The royal couple will wave to the crowd from a horse-drawn carriage escorted by 3,000 soldiers. Around 500,000 onlookers are expected along the parade route. There will then be an open-air concert with Swedish stars such as ESC winner Loreen, before the entire city center is transformed into an open-air dance floor with numerous DJs.
