July 14th: France celebrates national holiday again with a large military parade

France celebrated its national day again with a large military parade. Last year the parade was canceled due to the corona. At the start, Head of State Emmanuel Macron drove in an open military car on the Parisian boulevard Champs-Élysées. The aerobatic team opened the parade and drew the colors of the French flag in the Parisian sky. About 5,000 military personnel and members of the security apparatus take part in the parade. This year the international troop “Takuba”, which is active against Islamist terrorism in the Sahel region, will be particularly honored.

With the celebrations, Macron wants to look ahead, recognize the efforts made in the corona crisis and bring joy and hope about more normalcy to the fore. Even if the parade will take place in the traditional format again this year, there are restrictions: onlookers must wear a mask on the edge of the parade and have a test, vaccination or recovery certificate. There are also space restrictions. The major event is accompanied by stricter corona rules that Macron announced at the beginning of the week.

On its national holiday on July 14th, France commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789, which is seen as the symbolic beginning of the French Revolution.
