Mick Rock: The star photographer is dead

Mick Rock is dead. The legendary star photographer of the 1970s has died at the age of 72.

Star photographer Mick Rock has died at the age of 72. That was announced in an obituary from his family on his Twitter account. “With a heavy heart we announce that our beloved, psychedelic renegade Mick Rock has started the Jungian journey to the other side”,

Rock was a “photographic poet” and a “true force of nature” who spent his days doing exactly what he loved – always in his own wonderfully impudent way. Nothing is known about the exact circumstances of his death. For many years Rock lived with his wife Pati and daughter Nathalie in the New York borough of Staten Island.

Second career in the 1990s

Rock was mainly recognized by its iconic portrayals of 1970s rock greats such as David Bowie (1947-2016), Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), Lou Reed (1942-2013), Iggy Pop (74) and bands like The Sex Pistols, The Ramones or Pink Floyd are world famous. After a drug problem, he hung up his camera, but returned to work after withdrawal in the 1990s. In his second career, too, many rock stars dared to stand in front of his lens, including the bands REM, The Strokes, The Libertines and The Chemical Brothers.
