A few days after an operation on the bowel, Pope Francis was released from the hospital.
Ten days after his bowel operation, Pope Francis (84) left the Gemelli Clinic in Rome. This was confirmed by the Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni (44).
After his release, the Pope visited an icon of Mary in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. There he thanked that the operation had gone well and also prayed for all sick people – especially for those patients with whom he had contact in the hospital. Pope Francis is said to have arrived at the Vatican around noon.
“Let’s not forget to pray for the sick”
On July 4th, Francis had undergone a scheduled operation for a disease of the colon. Shortly thereafter, Bruni confirmed that the Pope had reacted “well to the operation under general anesthesia”. A week after the operation, Francis had appeared in public again and prayed with the faithful from a balcony of the hospital. Before his discharge, he also visited the clinic’s children’s cancer ward on Tuesday.
Pope Francis had received numerous wishes for wellbeing during his stay in the hospital. The 84-year-old thanked him on Twitter: “I thank everyone for their closeness in prayer and for the affection that I was able to experience during my hospital stay. Let us not forget to pray for the sick and for all who stand by them.”
