The wife of Bruce Willis, Emma Heming Willistalks about the actor’s struggle with frontotemporal dementia and whether he fully understands his diagnosis and deterioration.
“It’s hard to know. It’s hard to say,” an emotional Heming Wilis told NBC’s “Today” show on Monday. He added that it was both a “blessing and a curse” for the mother of two to receive and finally accept her diagnosis.
“It is hard for the person diagnosed and it is also hard for the family. And that’s no different for Bruce, or me, or our girls. “When they say it’s a family disease, it really is.”he added in a conversation with Today co-host Hoda Kotb.

After sharing that her condition had progressed to a dementia diagnosis earlier this year, mother-of-two Heming Willis has become an advocate for World Frontotemporal Dementia Awareness Week, which begins Monday.
Susan Dickinson, executive director of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, who also appeared on Today, said the devastating disease in some people robs them of their ability to understand their deteriorating health status. Neurological Willis disease affects your memory, language processing, and communication abilities, among other health effects.
“It can affect speech, behavior, personality and what we call executive functioning”Dickinson said of this condition that has no cure. Willis and Eming Willis married in 2009 and have two daughters, Mabel (11) and Evelyn (9).
Willis also has three adult children from his previous marriage to Demi Moore: Tallulah (29), Rumer (34), and Scout (31).
