Former handball world champion Sabine Bothe has died at the age of 63. The German Handball Association announced this, citing the family. The former world-class goalkeeper, better known by her surname Adamik at the time, died on Thursday in her adopted home in Garsten, Austria.
Sabine Bothe played 236 international matches for Germany
During her active time, Sabine Bothe played for SC Magdeburg, among others, and moved to TuS Walle Bremen after the fall of the Wall. She celebrated her greatest success in 1993 when she and the German team won the World Cup final in Copenhagen against hosts Denmark 22:21 after extra time
Bothe played a total of 236 international matches for the GDR and the German national team. In 1994 she also won silver at the home European Championships and the European Cup Winners’ Cup with TuS Walle Bremen. Bothe leaves behind an adult son.
