As part of the celebration of the 30 years of the Amijai community, a unique experience arrives at the Teatro Colón on September 29.

As part of the celebration of 30 years of The Amijai community arrives on Friday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Teatro Colón an unprecedented experience: the performance of the traditional Jewish ceremony of Kabbalat Shabbat (reception of the sacred day) in symphonic format in the iconic theater, an event never before held that seeks to honor three decades of history and integrate all people to share a moment of joy, spirituality and gratitude.

Symphonic Kabalat Shabbat in Colón is an innovative proposal from the Amijai community, with the aim of going further and allowing thousands of people to share the essence of Shabbat. The ceremony will be guided by the Rabbi Ale Avruj, who was highlighted in 2014 by the Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires Foundation along with Father Pepe with the “Men of Buenos Aires” award for their assistance work in needy neighborhoods. It will also feature the AMIJAI ensemble of musicians and the participation of more than 50 musicians on stage from the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, who will be directed by Maestro Ezequiel Silberstein and orchestral arrangements written especially for the occasion by Matías Scheines.

The symphonic Shabbat can be followed live from anywhere in the world via streaming on Amichai’s YouTube channel. In addition, through social networks, special access will be granted to those interested – who will be chosen at random – and they will be able to live this experience together with the Amijai community partners.

“Shabbat not as a ritual or a ceremony or a community commitment but as an opportunity for an encounter: with oneself, with history, with the search for meaning, with a pause, with one’s own energy, with music . In Amichai, a very universal idea is transmitted, which seeks to bring the messages of the Torah to everyday life. For this reason, we live Shabbat as a call to slow down time and dedicate space to spirituality,” explains Rabbi Ale Avruj.

Why is Shabbat a spiritual time?

The ceremony of Kabbalat Shabbat It takes place every Friday of the year at sunset in thousands of synagogues and Jewish communities around the world. It is considered the most important moment of the week because it invites each person to pause and disconnect from everyday life, to connect with themselves.

Shabbat ceremonies are the opportunity to generate a meeting where music plays a fundamental role, since it is the perfect framework to introduce people to a special moment where each one can celebrate, remember, cry, celebrate, depending on the moment they are going through. There is a concept within the Jewish tradition called miniam and it refers to the importance of being with other people sharing that moment, thus generating a community, the same energy, in the same moment.

Symphonic Kabalat Shabbat in Colón will seek to generate that magic that happens when people come together with the same purpose. During the ceremony there will be no shortage of traditional elements such as the lighting of candles, the wine ritual and songs. All people will be able to follow each step in the siddur or program that will be given to attendees. Those who follow him on YouTube will be able to download it on www.amijai.org days prior to the event.
