Hollywood actors and actresses have been on strike since mid-July. Talks with the studios about a new employment contract are now to be resumed.
Negotiations are set to take place again in the strike by actors and actresses in Hollywood that has been ongoing since mid-July. The SAG-AFTRA union and the TV and film studios association AMPTP announced a meeting next week in a joint statement. Talks about a new employment contract are scheduled to resume on October 2nd (Monday).
The actors are demanding, among other things, better remuneration and the regulation of the use of artificial intelligence in the industry. After negotiations collapsed, the approximately 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members stopped working on July 14th. The actors’ union followed the example of the screenwriters who went on strike at the beginning of May.
After tough negotiations, the authors’ union WGA (Writers Guild of America) and the major studios and streaming providers reached a preliminary agreement on Sunday. The WGA board then ended the strike after 148 days. The writers were able to resume their work on Wednesday. Now the more than 11,000 WGA members still have to vote on the new employment contract.
