Yesterday, The Rolling Stones released “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”, the second preview of their new album “Hackney Diamonds”, which features contributions from Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

The album, which will be released on October 20 and which interrupts the absence of original material since “A Bigger Bang” (2005), also marks the first production without the drummer and founder of the group Charlie Watts. After a first preview titled “Angry” and an announcement that went around the world with the news of their return to production, the Stones came out with a new song that brings the gospel influence and the lineage of songs like “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Shine a Light.”

It features a vocal performance by Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder behind a Fender Rhodes, a Moog synthesizer and a piano.

The story goes that Jagger was at his home in London one sunny afternoon, the leaves were rustling as the wind blew through the trees, and he began playing a chord pattern on the piano that ended up being the soul of this piece.

The song was recorded at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Metropolis Studios in London and Sanctuary Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, and the final composition is shared with Keith Richards.

During those sessions in Los Angeles, the group invited Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga, both with backgrounds in the Stone world: she joined the group on stage on the “50 & Counting” tour in 2012 to perform the version of “Gimme Shelter” was later released on the “GRRR Live Album”.

Wonder, for his part, toured with the Stones on their “American Tour” in 1972, and regularly appeared in the “Satisfaction” and “Uptight” medley. The arrival of “Hackney Diamonds” was announced at the end of August by Jagger, Richards and Ron Wood.
