It is the largest LED screen in the world under which the members of U2 will celebrate their rock anthems. Starting tonight, the rock band will play a new venue called MSG Sphere in Nevada.
The Irish rock band U2 is opening a new, spectacular event hall in Las Vegas with a series of concerts. U2 will play there three times a week on 25 nights until December. The first concert is planned for Friday evening. Also on the setlist, which is characterized by songs from the “Aktion Baby” album (1991), will be the new single “Atomic City”, which was released on Friday – a reference to the old nickname of the glittering oasis in Nevada.
Drummer Larry Mullen, who has to recover from a few operations and will be represented by Dutchman Bram van den Berg, will not be there.
The huge spherical hall called MSG Sphere, which has space for 18,600 spectators, is covered with LED screens inside and out. It is the largest LED screen in the world under which the members of U2 will celebrate their rock anthems. “When you see exterior shots with such high resolution around you, you get the impression that the building has disappeared,” Bono told US television station CBS. No matter where you sit: “Even when Bono speaks from the stage, it seems as if he is standing next to you,” says Willie Williams, long-time stage designer at U2, to the US magazine “Wallpaper”.
On previous tours, Bono (63) and his colleagues have repeatedly broken down technological boundaries and used superlatives for themselves – on the Zoo TV tour (1992 to 1993), for example, huge televisions and Trabis were hung above the stage for the first time.
