There have been no more kings in German politics for a long time. But Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner is currently king – kale king. What it’s all about.

As the kale king of the city of Oldenburg, Christian Lindner (FDP) led the parade to the Kramermarkt in a carriage. On Saturday, the Federal Minister of Finance took a seat next to Mayor Jürgen Krogmann (SPD) in the “Oldenburg carriage”. The parade led over a route of around two kilometers from the city center to the festival site. Around 100 floats and walking groups took part.

On February 6, 2023, Christian Lindner was crowned Kale Majesty of the City of Oldenburg at the “Defigt Ollnborger Gröönkohl-Äten” in Berlin. The FDP politician replaced the then Governing Mayor of Berlin, Franziska Giffey (SPD). A visit to the city is part of the incumbent Kohl Majesty’s duty. In his inaugural speech, Lindner promised that he would come to the Kramermarkt, and he has now kept this promise.

The Oldenburg Kramermarkt was first mentioned in documents in 1608 and, with up to 1.5 million visitors, is considered one of the largest folk festivals in northwest Germany. The festival started on September 29th and ends on October 8th.
