After the operetta “The Fidele Farmer” and the opera “The Magic Flute”, the third production of the Bad Hall Festival will start in a few days: from October 14th, the team around artistic director Thomas Kerbl and director Susanne Kerbl will be showing the musical “The Little Shop of Horrors”. The OÖNachrichten is giving away 5×2 tickets for the premiere.
The secret star of the performance is “Audrey II”. The carnivorous plant grows up to two meters and is not particularly squeamish when it comes to its choice of food. She traveled from Germany specifically for her performance: “We were able to borrow it from the Wiesbaden State Theater, where the piece was shown a few years ago,” says Susanne Kerbl.
“Always something to look at”
In Bad Hall, the musical will be performed by the ensemble of the Musical Theater Academy Puchenau, which is part of the state music school, together with guest actors. The singers are accompanied by an eight-piece band led by Gottfried Angerer, who also created the arrangements. “We show an entertaining, entertaining show,” says Susanne Kerbl. She compares her productions to the well-known hidden object books: “There always has to be something to look at.” “The Little Shop of Horrors” is ideal for this with its funny but bizarre story. The focus is on Seymour Krelborn, who is unhappily in love with his colleague Audrey. To win her favor, he grows an unusual plant and calls it Audrey II. Thanks to the pretty plant, sales increase in the ailing shop. As Audrey II begins to wither, Seymour discovers that she needs special nourishment: blood. That’s where the tragedy begins…
Intendant Thomas Kerbl closes the festival season in Bad Hall with the musical. He is very satisfied: “So far we have had 100 percent capacity utilization.” In total, “The Happy Farmer” and “The Magic Flute” attracted 10,000 visitors with a budget of 550,000 euros. In 2024, Franz Lehar’s “The Land of Smiles” (July 6th to August 3rd) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” (September 6th to 15th) are on the program.
The musical “The Little Shop of Horrors” can be seen from October 14th to November 11th at the Bad Hall City Theater. Information is available at stadttheater-badhall.com.
