490 days before the start of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach (February 4th to 16th, 2025), the first fixed point of the supporting program has been determined. The Salzburg State Theater is currently developing a new stage play that deals with skiing. The musical “Skiverliebt – Two boards that mean the world” is scheduled to premiere at the Landestheater shortly before the World Cup and will also be performed twice in Saalbach during the World Cup. At the same time there will be a Hamburg edition of the piece.
“What the ‘White Horse’ is for the summer holiday, ‘Skiverliebt’ should be for the winter holiday,” said Landestheater director Carl Philip von Maldeghem on Tuesday. The musical should be about the fascination of skiing, the sporting ambitions of individual actors and the “Austrian gene of hospitality”. The piece will take place in Saalbach and combine elements of a pop musical with the format of a winter sports revue operetta. The musical is created in cooperation with the Saalbach Tourism Association and Salzburg Tourism.
