The 51-year-old says he has lost the balance between his professional activities and his private life. He describes himself as an “absolute workaholic”. Should that change?
According to his own words, Hollywood star Idris Elba (“Luther”) is undergoing therapy for an addiction to work. “I’m an absolute workaholic,” the 51-year-old admitted on the “Changes With Annie Macmanus” podcast. “I work in an industry where I am rewarded for these unhealthy habits.” As an actor, he benefits from the fact that he is prepared not to see his family for six months while filming.
For around a year, he has been working with professional help to change his habits and create a balance between work and free time, explained the Brit, who in addition to acting also works as a DJ. “The thing is, things that relax me end up becoming work.” He said it was easier for him to put on music than to watch TV on the sofa with his family. “I have to normalize what relaxes me: it can’t just be work.”
