Fashion designer Victoria Beckham has spoken in detail about the “toughest phase” of her marriage to former football star David Beckham. “I’ve never been so unhappy in my entire life,” the 49-year-old said in the Netflix documentary “Beckhams,” which the Sun newspaper quoted on Wednesday, about earlier reports that her husband was having an affair.
The couple, who have been married since 1999 and have four children, have always denied the alleged affair during the time when Beckham played for Spanish record champions Real Madrid.
Beckham stressed: “If I’m being completely honest, it was us against each other. Up until Madrid it sometimes felt like it was us against everyone, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other.” She didn’t have this feeling in Spain. “It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus – and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town, right? Unless you’re in the middle of it yourself,” Beckham said. She resented her husband for that.
Why David Beckham missed Cruz’s birth
According to the Sun, David Beckham also says in the documentary that the speculation affected him personally and his marriage. “There were some terrible stories that were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been under such pressure in our marriage,” said the 48-year-old.
In another scene, Victoria Beckham reports, according to the Sun, that David missed the birth of son Cruz in 2005 to take part in a photo shoot with Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez and singer Beyoncé. A newspaper headline at the time, referring to Victoria Beckham’s Spice Girl name Posh Spice, said: “What would Posh say?” In the documentary, Victoria emphasized: “I can tell you what Posh would say. The couple attended the series premiere in London on Tuesday evening along with all four children, as well as Romeo Beckham’s partner Mia Regan and Brooklyn Beckham’s wife Nicola Peltz.
