“Now Alfonsín”: a documentary to commemorate 40 years of Democracy in Argentina

On December 10, Argentina will commemorate 40 uninterrupted years of democracy and DIRECTV has decided to document the historic event with strong recognition of Raul Alfonsinthe political leader who led the transition and the beginning of the democratic consolidation and economic integration of South America.

“Now Alfonsín. 40 years of Democracy”is the special documentary that the leading media tech company in connectivity, information and entertainment will premiere on Friday, October 13 at 10:00 p.m. (Argentina) on DNEWS, the first Latin American news signal for Latin America, and also on OnDIRECTV .

What Now Alfonsín is about

The documentary highlights the figure of former President Alfonsín and his fundamental role in the process of transition and consolidation of democracy in Argentinaand his cooperation as a regional leader in support of peace and democratization processes in the countries of the region.

“December 10 marks 40 years of democracy in the Argentine Republic. In this commemoration, our company could not fail to document one of the most important historical events in the country, due to its social commitment and to the communities in which it is present,” said Leo Flores, VP of Content at Vrio Corp, parent company of DIRECTV Latin America and the live TV and streaming platform DGO.

The documentary promises to be a shocking and revealing story. “We are sure that the documentary will have a high impact, given that we register excellent audience levels when we propose content about historical events that have marked our people and the history of Humanity,” Flores remarked.

The documentary was made by the prestigious film and television director Diego Guebel, known for its work on high-quality projects. The content was curated by Flores and the DIRECTV content team in Argentina.

Guebel shared the story behind the production: “DIRETV called us to talk about their intention to recognize and highlight Alfonsín’s role in the transition to democracy, regarding the commemoration of 40 uninterrupted years of the democratic process.”

The direction of this project was in the hands of Rosario Serbian, who had already collaborated with Guebel on previous productions. According to Guebel, Serbio contributed an aesthetic vision and an investigative approach that significantly enriched the documentary.

“Now Alfonsín. 40 years of Democracy” It is differentiated by its contemporary and pop style, combining historical narratives with modern visual resources. Among the protagonists who share their perspectives are prominent figures such as Julio Sanguinetti, Federico Storani, Jesús Rodríguez, Leopoldo Moreauand many others.

With an approximate duration of 110 minutes, this project required months of research, 17 days of recording and eight weeks of editing. The collaboration between Guebel and DIRECTV was essential to carry out this project of historical value.

Guebel shared his expectations for this documentary in a particular year for Argentina: “We seek to contribute to the construction of memory. For some, history will be something new, and for others, the possibility of remembering not only the man but, through him, the history of a people who, upon emerging from the horror, praised him to go in search of democracy.”

In addition, Guebel highlighted the regional role of Alfonsín. “Alfonsín’s story is one that no other president in the region had, because it was a democratic transition not agreed upon with the outgoing dictatorship. But his international politics forged part of the democratic history of Latin America,” emphasized the film and TV director.
