The Austrian author, who recently presented his new book “Eigentum” and is best known for his “Brenner” crime series, is being honored “for his always surprising and linguistically sparkling oeuvre,” as the jury’s statement states. The prize, worth 5,000 euros, will be awarded on February 23, 2024 in Munich, the Erich Kästner Society announced on Friday.

“In the brilliance and ingenuity of his language, his confident and habitual use of comedy and humor, the reflection of human fears and needs, in the close ties of his reading audience, a broad relationship to the namesake of this prize is evident,” the jury states according to the broadcast .

The previous award winners
