A Jedi origin film from “Logan” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” director James Mangold is currently in development.
Guillermo del Toro surprised fans Star Wars at the end of September when he confirmed on social networks that he was once planning a movie of the famous saga. The Oscar winner didn’t provide any further details at the time, but he has now confirmed to Collider’s Steven Weintraub that his canceled Star Wars movie focused on Jabba the Hutt. Considering del Toro’s love of monsters, it’s no surprise that he chose Jabba as the focal point of his own Star Wars movie.

“We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy”del Toro said. “We were doing a lot of things, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 scripts that disappears. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys.’ Good practice. We design a great world. We design cool things. We learned.'”


“You can never be ungrateful in life,” he later added about the dismissal of his film. Star Wars. “Whatever life sends your way, there is something to learn from it. So, you know, I trust the universe, I do. When something doesn’t happen, I say, ‘Why?’ I try to have a dialogue with myself. ‘Why didn’t it happen?’ And the more you swim against the current of the universe, the less you will realize where you are going.”
The next Star Wars movies

Mangold’s film is one of three “Star Wars” films in active development. Another, of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoyis a sequel to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” that follows Rey (Daisy Ridley) while training a new Jedi order. And a third, from the “Star Wars” favorite, Dave Filoniwill close out the interconnected stories told in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Ahsoka,”
