Sophia Thomalla leaves the CDU – and expresses criticism on Instagram

Sophia Thomalla no longer wants to be a member of the CDU. After twelve years she left the party. She explained her decision on Instagram and again criticized the politicians Julia Klöckner and Dorothee Bär.

Sophia Thomalla has been a CDU member since she was 22, but that is now over: She announced on Instagram that she would be leaving the party after twelve years. “I don’t want to continue to support the ever-increasing loss of reality among some politicians,” explained Thomalla. The occasion was a discussion event by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group under the motto “Violence against women – breaking the silence”. The Northern Irishwoman Shelby Lynn, among others, was invited to the event in Berlin. She made allegations in May after a concert in Vilnius and thus set the Rammstein scandal surrounding frontman Till Lindemann rolling. Thomalla supported Lindemann from the start, with whom she was in a relationship from 2011 to 2015.

Sophia Thomalla criticizes Julia Klöckner and Dorothee Bär

Politicians like Dorothee Bär (CSU) and Julia Klöckner (CDU) would “prefer to deal with people who are far from relevant in order to get quick and cheap applause from the woke Berlin bubble” instead of “taking care of the actual concerns of the citizens.” ” wrote Thomalla. Klöckner then told the “Bild” newspaper: “Violence against women is a huge problem. Unfortunately, the fight against it still takes up too little space in the social debate. Our concern was and is to give affected women a voice and to raise awareness of this issue.” Sophia Thomalla is “warmly invited to work with us to better protect women.”

The 34-year-old did not leave this uncommented and commented again on Instagram. “Answering with political phrases and unfortunately gallantly avoiding the facts that I am listing. Just as we are now used to with almost all topics,” writes Thomalla. She had already contacted Klöckner in mid-September to talk to her about the planned discussion evening and her departure from the CDU, but there was no response from the politician. Thomalla accuses Klöckner of not being interested in a serious exchange, but only thinking about her “public presentation and quick applause.” “Exactly the same thing with Dorothee Bär,” writes Thomalla, referring to an article that Bär published about the discussion. The comments under the post have been limited.

Sophia Thomalla was a fan of Angela Merkel

At the end of her article, Sophia Thomalla launches an all-round attack on various topics: the MeToo debate, the corona pandemic, the LGBTQ+ community, immigration policy and the climate crisis. “If you don’t agree with the intellectual critics, you will be labeled as stupid, low-level and not enlightened enough, instead of engaging with people,” she writes and concludes: “This arrogance from above bothers me (…) rightly and rightly on the pointer.”

In 2017, Sophia Thomalla was in one star-Interview outed as a fan of Angela Merkel. “I think that she behaved absolutely morally correctly, especially when it came to refugee policy, and that’s why I’m voting for her again now. She offers you a certain level of security,” she said of the then Chancellor. In 2021, she publicly expressed her enthusiasm for Friedrich Merz, but then also supported Armin Laschet as the CDU’s candidate for chancellor. “I said that I’m actually not a big Armin Laschet fan so far, but I also said that I’d be happy to be proven wrong,” Thomalla said at the time. This doesn’t seem to apply to Julia Klöckner and Dorothee Bär.
