“Mr. Jauch” should now be a thing of the past for Barbara Schöneberger. “I don’t know if I can keep it up in the long run,” said Schöneberger in a conversation with colleague and new first-name friend Günther Jauch.
From “you” to “you”: Barbara Schöneberger and Günther Jauch drank to brotherhood in the 1000th “NDR Talk Show”. “The question I’m asked most often when I’m asked about my job is, do you really know Mr. Jauch?” asked Schöneberger (49) on Friday evening. “It never occurred to me to use your first name. Now I noticed that there are very few people around you who use your first name…” Jauch (67) reacted briefly and then said: “I can feel that a residual need for you?” The conversation culminated in Jauch’s sentence: “Barbara, yes, I want to.”
They both toasted with champagne and celebrated the ritualized transition from Siezen to Duzen by drinking. On RTL, Schöneberger and Jauch have been hosting a game show together with Thomas Gottschalk (73) for years (“Because they don’t know what’s happening! The Jauch-Gottschalk-Schöneberger Show”).
Schöneberger doubts whether she can keep up with the first name
“I don’t know if I can keep it up in the long run,” said Schöneberger after kicking off. “I’ve gotten so used to it and it’s always been so talk of town that I’ll tell you,” she said with a little slip of the tongue. “It’s still a little difficult for me, but we’ll get it done.”
Talk show guest Ina Müller interjected from the group: “Mr. Jauch is also more beautiful than Günther.” “Mr. Jauch” looks a little more impressive.
Jauch then explained: “I was named after an uncle who died in Russia.” Günther was the most common male first name in Germany in the 1920s – even before Heinz. But he also noticed that there was no Günther anymore.
Müller then asked the pregnant Carolin Kebekus, who was also sitting in the group, whether it was possible for her to name her child “Günther”. Kebekus only said: “Everything is still open.”
1000th edition of the “NDR Talk Show”
The live anniversary broadcast for the 1000th edition of the “NDR Talk Show” could be seen on Friday evening from 10 p.m.
With her colleague Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt, Schöneberger had half an hour more time than usual for the talk guests, who, in addition to Jauch, Müller and Kebekus, also included Florian David Fitz, Christoph Maria Herbst, Tim Mälzer and Mario Barth.
