Wood, along with Mick jagger and Keith Richards, “Hackney Diamonds” announced during a live press conference at London’s Hackney Empire last month. The lead single was also released “Angry”as well as the video starring the Euphoria actress, Sydney Sweeney. The full album consists of 12 tracks (all co-written by Jagger and Richards, except for a cover of Muddy Waters’ blues standard ‘Rollin’ Stone’) and is out October 20 via Polydor.

For the new project, the Stones recruited a host of renowned musicians, with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder in the gospel epic “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven”, Paul MCCARTNEY playing bass for the punk-y rocker “Bite My Head Off” and the original bassist Bill Wyman (who left in 1993) appears on the fast-paced jam “Live By The Sword.” You can also listen to Elton John on piano during the ballad “Get Close”, as well as on “Live By The Sword”.
What it was like to record without Charlie Watts on drums and what it will be like to play live for the Rolling Stones again
Watts, who joined the band in 1963 when they covered R&B classics on the London club circuit, died in 2021 after a brief illness. He played drums on two songs, “Mess It Up” and “Live by the Sword”, which he had worked on before his death. Steve Jordanhand-picked by Watts as his successor, appears on the rest of the album.
Speaking about the difference between the two drummers, Wood said: “The best way I can describe it is: Charlie was a fireworks show with a lot of explosions and Steve Jordan is like a bomb going off. We needed that extra push [para terminar el álbum]”.
Regarding the possibility of the new songs being played live, Wood admitted: “Next week we will see how they translate live. I have full faith. We could play the whole album, you know what I mean? But [Mick y Keith] They’ll say, ‘Oh no, Ron, that’s too ambitious.’ We will not forget the previous catalog. There are certain songs, ‘Paint It, Black’ and ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, that have to be played. “We’re only leaving room for, say, three or five songs.”
“Hackney Diamonds” arrives on October 20, in physical format, streaming platforms and digital stores.
