The 45th Cairo International Film Festivalwhich was to take place between November 15 and 24, was canceled due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the organization reported.

The oldest film event in the Middle East and Africa announced its decision today via its Instagram account: “The Minister of Culture, Dr. Neven El-Kelany, has decided to postpone the 45th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival, which was scheduled to take place from November 15 to 24. The new date of the festival will be determined later.”


The reasons behind the cancellation of the Cairo Film Festival
But the Cairo Fest press office later stated that the postponement amounts to “a de facto cancellation,” Variety reported. The move comes as Egypt faces a mass exodus of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the Sinai Peninsula amid Israeli bombing..
Last week, the El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt was also rescheduled due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. El Gouna Fest said in a statement that it will now take place from October 27 to November 2, instead of its previous dates of October 13 to 20.
