Peter Gabriel announces release date and details of his first album in 21 years

Throughout 2023, Gabriel has been releasing a new song every time there has been a full moon and has been playing shows across the UK, Europe and North America.

Peter Gabriel announced details of his new album “i/o”their first collection of new material in over 20 years. The 12-track album will be released on December 1 and will be available in two stereo mixes, both on CD and vinyl.

Throughout 2023, Gabriel has been releasing a new song every time there has been a full moon and has been playing shows across the UK, Europe and North America.

“After years of full moon releases, I’m so happy to see all of these new songs together on the Good Ship i/o and ready for their journey into the world,” said Gabriel.

“io” It was recorded at Gabriel’s Real World Studios, near Bath. In addition to Gabriel, the album features regular contributions from guitarist David Rhodesthe bassist Tony Levin and the drummer Manu Katché. There are also recordings of the Soweto Gospel Choir and the all-male Swedish choir Oprhei Drängarwhile several songs, according to a press release, “bear the fingerprints” of Brian Eno.

Gabriel’s last album of all-new material was “Up” 2002, although since then it has released “Scratch My Back” from 2010, a covers album, and “New Blood” from 2011, which consisted of orchestral re-recordings of songs from throughout his career.

One of the full moon recordings included in “i/o” is “Four Kinds of Horses”, released in May. The song features Gabriel’s daughter Melanie on backing vocals and Eno on synthesizer. Other previously released songs include “Pantopticom” and “The Court”.
