30 years after the premiere of “Tangofero: the legend of Tanguito”, director Marcelo Piñeyro, along with the protagonists Cecilia Dopazo and Fernán Mirás, will receive recognition at the Piriápolis International Film Festival, which will be held at the Argentino Hotel in that Uruguayan city between tomorrow and October 22. Piñeyro’s debut film, which was a box office success in 1993 and will be shown tomorrow in a remastered copy at the opening of the festival, is inspired by the life of the Argentine rock singer-songwriter José Alberto Iglesias, better known as Tanguito.
The tribute to the successful film will be completed with a round table titled “Fercious Tango: a talk for 30 years”, with the presence of Dopazo, Mirás and Piñeyro, moderated by journalist Fernando Brenner on Saturday the 21st. In addition, in the exhibition there will be a tribute to the career of actor Juan Leyrado, who will be accompanied by his son Luciano, who will present his debut film “Oliva”, a comedy co-starring Andrea Frigerio and which was filmed entirely in Uruguay.
