Gatiss, who co-created the hugely popular BBC series sherlock based on Doyle’s novels, is adapting Doyle’s short story “Lot No. 249”.

The move maintains an annual tradition of Gatiss writing and directing a televised Christmas ghost story.
What “Lot No. 249” is about
Harington stars alongside Freddie Fox (The Great) a story that “revolves around a group of Oxford students, one of whom undertakes an investigation into the secrets of Ancient Egypt that become the talk of the university. Can these experiments really bring to life the horrible bag of bones that is the mysterious Lot? No. 249?
According to Gatiss: “It is a real pleasure for me to delve once again into the brilliant work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this time for the story of the Christmas Ghost. Lot #249 is my personal favorite and is the granddaddy (or should that be mommy?) of a particular kind of end of the Empire: a story full of gruesome scares and who knows what lurks in the Victorian closet…”
The project is produced by Adorable Media for BBC Arts and will air on BBC Two this Christmas. A distributor for the rest of the world has not yet been named.
Harington recently appeared in the anthology series Apple TV+ Extrapolations and stars in the next movie Blood For Dustwhich received positive reviews this summer at the Tribeca Film Festival.
