There is nothing more dangerous than the search for happiness. He almost paid with his life. “Murot and Paradise” (yesterday, ARD) has the investigator suffering from depression on the couch with his therapist (Martin Wuttke). While the trail of two mysterious deaths leads to a dubious foundation and into the middle of the supposed “paradise”. The latter is “not a place, but a state,” says Brigitt Hobmeier as the graceful angel of death who taps into Murot’s navel in order to manipulate him: with happiness. The security of the mother’s breast. The weightlessness of space. The murder of the “leader”.
Ulrich Tukur plays those tormented by existence, seduced into blissful madness in “Tatort”, which is more of a satire on promises of salvation with a warning against high-tech manipulation and capitalism’s greed. The paradise? The final realization may be that happiness lies in the longing for him. If you like Tukur’s Murot, you will also like this somewhat thick episode.
