Hundreds of Hollywood celebrities sign an open letter to Joe Biden: “No hostages must be left behind,” they demand.
A long list of Hollywood stars and US entertainment executives have signed a letter thanking US President Joe Biden (80) for his leadership in the war between Israel and Hamas. They also ask him to continue to focus on the hostages in Gaza.
Bradley Cooper, Courteney Cox, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Bob Odenkirk, Constance Wu, Tiffany Haddiah, Aubrey Plaza, Zack Snyder and Shawn Levy are just some of the celebrities who added their names to the show on Monday (October 23). Internet site “No Hostage Left Behind” was circulated. Gal Gadot and Amy Schumer are among those actively involved in the coalition.
“220 innocent people remain” in captivity
“We were very pleased with the release on Friday of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan, and today’s release of the two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands are still in captivity,” the letter said. As relieved as they are about the releases, they are equally concerned that “220 innocent people continue to be held captive by terrorists and are at risk of torture and death,” they wrote.
The letter also thanks Biden for his moral convictions and support for the Jewish and Palestinian people. “We all want the same thing: freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace,” the letter said. “Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, at this moment, freedom for the hostages.”
Open letter at the weekend
Other stars had already written an open letter to the president over the weekend. A group of 55 artists and entertainment industry representatives called on Biden to work for a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel. As reported by Variety, among others, the signatories included Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix, Susan Sarandon, Cate Blanchett and Kristen Stewart.
