“Standard” managing director Alexander Mitteräcker confirmed a corresponding “Horizon” report upon request. All 25 people are only affected in the worst case scenario. “Over the course of the 30-day blocking period it will become clear how many are actually affected,” said the media manager. A social plan for those affected is currently being developed with the works council, Mitteräcker said on Wednesday.

In the area of material costs, they have been active throughout the year. The “Standard” group has a total of 550 employees, around 180 of whom work in the editorial department. Like other media, “Der Standard”, where Gerold Riedmann will take over as editor-in-chief in April 2024, is struggling with rising costs and falling sales. “Standard TV”, which recently had a double-digit number of employees, was discontinued in the summer. According to “Horizont”, some of them have already been parted with.
