Richard Lugner mourns: Ex-girlfriend Sonja Schönanger died of cancer. Just a few days ago they celebrated his 91st birthday.
Richard “Mörtel” Lugner (91) mourns the loss of his ex-girlfriend Sonja Schönanger. “On October 14th we celebrated my 91st birthday together. On that day she was the blossoming life,” said Lugner in his statement. According to him, the cause of death was cancer.
Schönanger was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago and thought he had overcome the disease: “But the cancer spread and the metastases spread to other parts of the body.” He doesn’t know whether she knew what she was doing on his birthday: “In any case, she didn’t show any signs of it. She only complained about back pain at the party and went to the hospital afterwards.” She only told him about her cancer later.
Richard Lugner: “Her voice became weaker and weaker”
Her death is very difficult for the construction lion, as he says in conversation: “It really frightens me how quickly a life can suddenly end.” During their last phone call, she still had hope: “But her voice became weaker and weaker.” Richard Lugner and Sonja Schönanger, whom he affectionately called “Beetle”, were a couple from 2008 to 2009 and appeared together at numerous public events during this time. Even after the relationship ended, they remained in friendly contact.
