It has an unusual name: Blue Ivy. Now rap superstar Jay-Z has revealed how the name came about.
According to their own words, ultrasound images inspired superstar Beyoncé (42) and rapper Jay-Z (53) when looking for a name for their daughter Blue Ivy (now 11).
“She was supposed to be called Brooklyn,” Jay-Z told host Gayle King on CBS Mornings. During the ultrasound, however, Blue Ivy was so “super tiny” that he and Beyoncé always called their unborn first child Blueberry. “For nine months we said, ‘Look at the little blueberry,’ so it became natural. Then we just dropped the ‘berry’ and called her Blue.”
The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter and who achieved worldwide success with songs like “Empire State of Mind” and “Crazy in Love”, has been married to Beyoncé (“Break My Soul”) since 2008. Blue Ivy was born in 2012, the twins Rumi and Sir were born in 2017.
