He made a name for himself with countless TV roles as well as as a character actor in the cinema: German actor Elmar Wepper died on Tuesday at the age of 79. His agent confirmed corresponding media reports to the dpa.
Wepper, whose brother Fritz is also an actor, became known for series such as “The Commissioner” and “Two Münchner in Hamburg”. Elmar Wepper was also seen in long-running TV series such as “Der Alte”, “Das Traumschiff” and “Tatort”.
He gained his first stage experience as a 14-year-old in Munich. He later worked as a voice actor and lent his voice to Hollywood star Mel Gibson. This was followed by many film and television engagements. A late highlight of his career was Doris Dörrie’s film “Cherry Blossoms – Hanami” in 2008. Wepper played Rudi, who wants to fulfill his late wife’s dreams with a trip to Japan. The sequel “Cherry Blossoms & Demons” followed in 2019.
