Humor world: For his 100th birthday: special stamp honors Loriot

Loriot has shaped the German humor world with his sketches, cinema comedies and caricatures. Two special stamps are now being dedicated to him on his 100th birthday.

To mark his 100th birthday, the Federal Ministry of Finance will honor the actor, humorist and cartoonist Loriot (1923-2011) with two special postage stamps. The special postage stamps will be issued today, the ministry announced.

With his incomparable and astute humor, Loriot was able to charmingly hold up a mirror to society again and again and in the process bring the different generations together,” said Parliamentary State Secretary Katja Hessel, according to the statement. “To this day we enjoy his work and the traces, which he left behind in the German language.”

Loriot, actually Bernhard-Viktor (Vicco) von Bülow, was for decades one of the greats in his field as a cartoonist, author, director and actor. The native of Brandenburg died on August 22, 2011 in Ammerland on Lake Starnberg.
