As a teenager, Kim Petras wanted to quickly get away from her home village on the edge of the Westerwald. She now lives in California – and is pursuing a career. But she hasn’t forgotten her German roots.
Pop star Kim Petras (31) loves German music and is still inspired by it. “As a child I liked Reinhard Mey and listened to Marlene Dietrich, that’s a big part of me,” the Bonn-born singer and songwriter told Vogue magazine. The Grammy winner now lives in Los Angeles.
She returns to her Rhenish homeland once a year, “so that I don’t go completely crazy,” she said. “It’s important for me to remember where I come from and why I am the way I am and what I dreamed of as a child.” Her relationship with her home village of Uckerath has changed a lot: “I was so stressed back then and really wanted to leave for a bigger place. When I visit home today, I can see all of this nature and the beauty in it, how quiet it is there is.”
