Andy Fordham: Darts icon died at the age of 59

Andy Fordham is dead. The former world darts champion died at the age of 59.

Andy Fordham (1962-2021) became a darts legend as “The Viking”. Now the Englishman has died at the age of 59. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the former world champion. Fordham died on the morning of July 15 in a hospital after severe organ failure. His wife Jenny was at his side until the end.

He contracted the coronavirus in January

Fordham, who won the British Darts Organization (BDO) World Professional Darts Championship in 2004, suffered from numerous health problems, according to British media reports. He had to struggle with being very overweight and, among other things, had to undergo bowel surgery last year.

He was infected with the corona virus in January 2021. : “My greatest fear is waking up one morning, not being able to breathe, being pushed into an ambulance and then not being able to see my wife and children again.”

Several colleagues said goodbye to Fordham on social media. “It’s sad to hear of a legend’s demise,” said the two-time World Champion of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), Adrian Lewis (36).
