“I love sport,” says the heir to the British throne, who was not in a dragon boat for the first time. The drummer on the bow received special praise.
“Natural talent” Prince William led his team to victory in a dragon boat race in Singapore. The 41-year-old didn’t miss a single shot, praised team captain Chris Bosher. In a white polo shirt under a life jacket and a black cap, the British heir to the throne stood out from the otherwise red-clad “British Dragons” team of 22 rowers. “I love sports,” said William, especially praising the drummer on the bow. “The drum was very good, a very good rhythm.”
William rode with a mixed crew of 14 nationalities. “It’s great to see the power of sport to bring communities together,” Kensington Palace’s official X account captioned a short clip of the race. “Rowers from Singapore, the UK and across the Commonwealth experience the amazing camaraderie of their dragon boat team.”
Captain Bosher subsequently told Britain’s PA news agency: “He was outstanding, he said ‘really guys, I want us to win’.” Dragon boat racing is a popular sport in Singapore, with many foreigners residing in the Southeast Asian city-state taking part. It wasn’t the first race of this kind for William. In 2011, he came out on top in a duel against his wife Princess Kate in Canada.
The eldest son of King Charles III. landed in Singapore on Sunday to great cheers, where he wants to choose the winners of the environmental prize he founded, the Earthshot Prize, this Tuesday.
