What can you do if Siri mispronounces a name? For example, you can call Tim Cook. Barbra Streisand did it.
Entertainer Barbra Streisand (81) reports on how she intervened with Apple boss Tim Cook because of the incorrect pronunciation of her name. The Apple voice assistant Siri simply didn’t pronounce her name correctly: “My name isn’t spelled with a Z,” emphasized the 81-year-old. She had previously explained that the S in her last name was pronounced unvoiced – i.e. hissing. In English, however, a Z is pronounced voiced and therefore softly.
The singer, actress and director wondered in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC that the pronunciation of her name is so easy. “I thought I better call Apple, I mean the head of Apple, Tim Cook,” she explained. “And he made Siri correct the pronunciation of my name.”
The award-winning artist, who recounts her rise to global stardom in her new memoir My Name Is Barbra, added: “That’s one perk of fame!”
