Serena Williams (42) has received an award as a real fashion icon. On Monday evening she was awarded the CFDA Fashion Award, becoming the first female athlete ever to do so. This means she is now in line with Hollywood stars such as Zendaya (27) and music icon Rihanna (35), who have also already received these awards.

Tennis player presents exciting outfit

The 42-year-old wore a custom-made black sequin dress with a train for her appearance. The dress was designed by, of all people, CFDA chairman Thom Browne (58). She set highlights with her white jewelry, ear pendants and a necklace by designer David Yurman (47).

“Since I was a little girl, I have used fashion as an outlet to express myself. Fashion gave me the confidence to go out on the court and show who I was and where I was going,” the tennis player said at the awards ceremony .

She is a fashion icon not only on the red carpet, but also in sports

She also showed off some iconic outfits on the field. For example, she wore a denim miniskirt or a white blazer during important matches on the tennis court. This means the 42-year-old will be remembered. In 2018, the athlete was even banned from wearing her French Open catsuit. The president of the French Tennis Federation said at the time: “You have to respect the game and the place.”
