Pop singer Maite Kelly wants to encourage women to support each other more. “Unfortunately, I was always supported more by men than by women. I promised myself that as an entrepreneur I would do things differently, because that’s actually really sad,” said the 43-year-old in an interview with the German Press Agency.
In recent years she has noticed again and again that there are systems that “keep women down.” However, she refuses to get involved in this, said the singer. “It is important that we have smart mothers in our society who are not trapped in such systems – such as mini-jobs.”
Motherhood and being single have given her the strength to be successful in a male-dominated world in recent years, Kelly said. “We women at least have the strength of gentle reason and advocacy. Like water, we can flow through walls with the necessary strength.”
When she looks at her career, she realizes that her strength is limited, said the Berlin native. “My gut feeling tells me that I have enough creative energy for seven albums.” Her fourth album, “Love, Maite – The best… so far!”, released this year. is therefore a consciously placed intermediate point.
Kelly wants to tour Germany with the best-of album from November 9th. “Even four years ago, my shows weren’t as hit-packed as this one.” Her recipe for success is the combination of authenticity and commerciality: “It works, as you can see, for example, from Udo Lindenberg or Taylor Swift.” In addition to the opening concert in Cologne, further performances are planned in Dortmund, Leipzig, Hamburg and Berlin.
As the child of Dan and Barbara-Ann Kelly, Maite Kelly was part of the music group The Kelly Family, founded in 1974, as a child. As a pop singer, she celebrated success with, among other things, the songs “Why didn’t you say no” and “Seven Lives for You”.
